A Member of The Society for Embroidered Work

I’m delighted to announce that I’ve been accepted as a member of The Society for Embroidered Work for my Hand Embroidery.

I share my work under the name Catherine Hill Textile Artist on Instagram and Facebook.

S.E.W. support some of the finest textile artists from across the world. Promoting ‘Stitched Art is Art’ #stitchedartisart  It’s a real honour to become a member.

In a previous post, you can find out more about the Society and its November 2019 Exhibition in London.

The Society for Embroidered Work

A little textile inspiration from my YouTube Textile Collection. Today it features the contemporary Stitch work courtesy of the members of The Society for Embroidered Work (S.E.W.). Have you discovered this new international art society, dedicated to stitch?

#StitchedArtisArt is the Society’s Hashtag. It was co-founded in 2018 by Cat Frampton and Emily Tull, in response to opinions that ‘Stitched work is just a Craft’, and to raise the profile of embroidery as a recognised art form.

The first members’ exhibition was in November 2019, and I was there to film it for you and to chat to Cat and Emily about the Society’s aims and ambitions – I also asked them how, as fellow stitchers, we could all apply to join!

To find out more information about the Society, S.E.W. have a website and are on Instagram.

The stitched artwork in the YouTube Thumbnail is by Marna Lunt, Kate Tume and Sarah Gwyer.
