‘Contact’ Magazine May 2020 Edition

I’m thrilled my tiny piece of embroidery has appeared in the May 2020 edition of The Embroiderers’ Guild ‘Contact’ magazine. The piece for The Embroiderers’ Guild challenge ‘NHS – Reasons to be Thankful’ is lace mounted onto card and is 4 inches square. All the pieces will be collated to make large artworks for hospitals across the UK.

(Update May 2021: The collated work in this project can be viewed in a dedicated Embroiderers’ Guild Reasons to be Thankful: Thank You NHS – Part 1 E-Book )

I create my own embroidery under the name of Catherine Hill Textile Artist.

It’s the second piece I’ve submitted to the Guild this year. My previous piece was for The Embroiderers’ Guild Members’ Challenge. The topic was “My Favourite Things”. My piece was called “The Sound of the Kenwood Chef”.

The Sound of the Kenwood Chef

It’s that time of year again, when I feel the pressure of yet another deadline! This time it’s for The Embroiderers’ Guild Members’ Challenge. The topic is “My Favourite Things”. My piece is called “The Sound of the Kenwood Chef”.

” One of the most memorable sounds from my childhood, is the sound of my Mum’s heavy, metal Kenwood Chef, whirring away. The smell of home baked cakes, pies and bread filled the house. Saturday mornings was the highlight of the week. Me, my three sisters and two brothers, waited patiently until Mum said we could eat the first batch of warm Victoria Scones.”

Have you submitted work too? Leave a message below and let me know. I’d love to see it when the Guild next exhibits them on their stand.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen some of my other embroideries – ‘Take Time to Smell the Roses’ was posted off in February 2019 and the other two (‘Cheese and Onion Pie‘ & ‘Time for Tea‘) posted at the end of August 2019 (which are part of the Guild’s ‘Home’ Exhibition). All the pieces can be seen as they tour with the Guild across the UK.

Stitch Magazine – I’ve an article in the new edition!

I’m so happy that an article about my work has appeared in Stitch Magazine Issue 123.

I was contacted in November 2019, to write a piece about ‘Take Time to Smell the Roses’. It appears alongside the other winners from the Embroiderers’ Guild 2019 – ‘Life’s Rich Pattern’ Challenge.

This follows another mention of my work in Contact Magazine – I talk about a creative journey in 2019, through my Embroiderers’ Guild Exhibition piece – “Lancashire Cheese and Onion Pie”, and also the piece I exhibited at The Festival of Quilts – “The First Day in the Mill”.

Thank you to the Guild for sharing my work. I hope I’ve inspire others to gave a go and exhibit their embroidery.
