All Women 2021 Exhibition – Two Artworks

The sounds of the kenwood chef

I’m pleased to announce that ‘The Sound of the Kenwood Chef’ and ‘Take Time to Smell the Roses’ have been selected for the J. Mane Gallery “All Women 2021” Exhibition, based in NJ, USA .

“J. Mane Gallery is pleased to present its 3rd All Women International Online Juried Art Exhibition. Women artists have been making art throughout history, however their work, when compared to their male counterparts, tends to be overlooked and undervalued. Women artists are often faced with challenges due to gender biases in the fine art world. Therefore,  we are honoring women artists.” – J. Mane Gallery

4 hours in History – Trump & Biden 2020

Trump & Biden - 4 hours in History

On the evening of the 7th November 2020, I found myself sitting in the UK, watching the TV and seeing events unfolding in the Trump – Biden US elections. I picked up a pencil and paper and started documenting what I saw. ‘4 hours in History’ is an observational piece of art collecting together the protests (from all parties), interviews and quotes from the day.

At the time, I was sharing lockdown with my Mum with a very limited supply of cotton cloth to stitch on. The old adage ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ was certainly true for me. After a quick rummage through the airing cupboard I discovered a well worn cotton pillowcase to embroider onto. I hope it won’t be missed.

This is the second piece I created during Lockdown 2. The first being a Self Portrait for the Beyond Knitting & Stitching Show .

‘The Sound of the Kenwood Chef’ has Won an Award

Very happy news. I’ve been ‘Commended for the Beryl Dean Award for Hand Embroidery’ for my work “The Sound of the Kenwood Chef”. The piece was my submission to this year’s The Embroiderers’ Guild UK Members’ Challenge. I can’t stop smiling.

Allowing for the current Covid 19 situation, the plan is that all the Challenge artworks will be on exhibition at a future Knitting & Stitching Show.
